A shortage of skilled workers, which we do have, is down to poor investment in education. The NYT piece is indeed a bit loopy. Take it to its illogical conclusion and masturbation would be banned because 'every sperm is sacred' and also a potential taxpayer!valdemarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03829872956512652469noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35315805.post-53353175351733978952008-12-29T10:19:00.000-05:002008-12-29T10:19:00.000-05:00Here's something I wrote exactly an year ago, and ...Here's something I wrote exactly an year ago, and fitting this occasion.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35315805.post-13625022569299089612008-12-27T17:11:00.000-05:002008-12-27T17:11:00.000-05:00All one has to do is try to get from Point A to Po...All one has to do is try to get from Point A to Point B during rush hour to realize that the USA is not suffering from a LACK of people. A lack of skilled, educated people, perhaps (but aren't the fundies the ones most likely to be ignorant of basic math, science, and history anyway?)The fundies use the same lame population argument about gay marriage--if we let gays marry each other, the USA will have to shut its doors because the population will plummet precipitously.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35315805.post-692312769553989782008-12-27T11:19:00.000-05:002008-12-27T11:19:00.000-05:00I lived overseas in Germany 9 years ago. A lot of the people I met there commented that the declining population isn't a plus because of national issues related to taxes, etc. Declining population equals declining tax payers and a decline in national services including retirement payments, ie social security.

Anyway, this article from the NYTimes makes a lot of sense - especially in regards to the loss of population affecting the loss of benefits.

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F02E3DA133FF93BA25752C1A9629C8B63&sec=health&spon=&pagewanted=allCarlinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06802537272492496374noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35315805.post-89608455353411644992008-12-23T18:41:00.000-05:002008-12-23T18:41:00.000-05:00To become a doctor or even a skilled worker requir...To become a doctor or even a skilled worker requires education. Even high school educations in this country costs a fortune. To put one child through the one year of public high school in our community costs the parents or guardians $800 in fees for one child. Then taxes cover the thousands experts say it costs to educate each student.

Then off to college if one can get accepted and is eligible for student loans. Most students also need money to live on and need jobs to pay for the spaghetti and oatmeal they must survive on while going to school. Once they are finished they have hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt along with their diploma. Then when one finishes they are lucky to even be able to find a "skilled labor" job.

As for becoming a doctor. Not all are smart enough to be accepted into medical schools, especially fundies who are the most against abortions and who keep popping out gas station attendants and construction workers. Also, as pointed out, medical school takes years, and years of education and residency, etc. Education expenses to become a doctor is mind boggling. Then malpractice insurance later is extraordinary.

Hite is an asshat.Stardusthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10560872454564355114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35315805.post-15156183276818389252008-12-22T06:39:00.000-05:002008-12-22T06:39:00.000-05:00Can you reply to that newspaper, you have a well t...Can you reply to that newspaper, you have a well thought out response if you ask me.

My opinion, well you probably know what that is, Tommy. :Otina FCDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10037896362034609151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35315805.post-9916777267808856652008-12-21T08:31:00.000-05:002008-12-21T08:31:00.000-05:00THE FIRST THUMB-RULE OF THE UNIVERSE (about Yin-Ya...THE FIRST THUMB-RULE OF THE UNIVERSE (about Yin-Yang and Equilibrium) :

The children in third-world countries whose deaths due to various illnesses, sicknesses and maladies caused by poverty, and which deaths atheists decry, will die by the hands of their mothers and fathers --along with those of a highly trained and specialized army of doctors and nurses-- in developed and highly-developed capitalist countries all around the world. -- and the best part is: no-one even feels "bad" about it! (and after all, ... why should they?) :-\

THE SECOND THUMB-RULE OF THE UNIVERSE: (Shakespeare's rule: "a cake, by any other name... ") :

Atheists abhor Islam and its rise, yet simple math shows that their being outnumbered in their own countries is inevitable. -- One can't have his cake and eat it too.

THIRD THUMB-RULE OF THE UNIVERSE:

No-one has the right, nor the choice, over another's life: whether slave-owners or otherwise. Yet that doesn't seem to stop them from doing just that, nor from pretending like they're entitled to.

Pi-th THUMB-RULE OF THE UNIVERSE: (closely related to the third, therefore also the numbering) :

No-one has the right to deny the humanity of another human being by saying "they're not *REALLY* human": whether it's Hitler, slave-owners, KKK-members, ... or the Democrats, the Pentagon and Donald Rumsfeld ("casualties"). Yet that doesn't seem to stop them from doing just that, nor from pretending like they're entitled to.

FOURTH THUMB-RULE OF THE UNIVERSE: (applying every four years, hence also its appropiate index) :

The Americans are doomed to choose each four years between a side who says "unborn aren't realy human" and another who says "Arabs aren't really human".

FIFTH THUMB-RULE OF THE UNIVERSE: (also called Murphy's rule) :

If a political slogan can be mocked, it will.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
