There aren't too many great black pitchers or even good black pitchers. But have blacks and Dominicans in the field would have made it harder for Babe to get a good batting average which allowed him to swing for the fences more. The big question is how would Willie Mays or Henry Aaron have done in the same era if either were the only black guy playing at the same time as Babe. Chances are they would have done better.
As far as pitching goes, the pitchers are much better today than they were back then. It is more of a science than it was, and I'm not sure but I think they have developed or refined more types of pitches.
Oh, and I stopped following baseball, same with hockey, in 1990 pretty much. I love the NFL though.Baconeaterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11134934827966299989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35315805.post-19033354820116094932007-10-14T08:56:00.000-04:002007-10-14T08:56:00.000-04:00Babe Ruth didn't play against any Dominicans or bl...Babe Ruth didn't play against any Dominicans or blacks. If I played in a league that only had Jewish atheists in it, I might have had records just as good as Babe's.Baconeaterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11134934827966299989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35315805.post-10554879850375789362007-10-13T09:58:00.000-04:002007-10-13T09:58:00.000-04:00Always hated sports (boring) and thought the way p...Always hated sports (boring) and thought the way people get so emotional about them is just pure madness. Nice article Tommy. You've inspired me to write one of my own about football.chooseDoubthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14892003265288803666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35315805.post-73594799119955883922007-10-13T09:36:00.000-04:002007-10-13T09:36:00.000-04:00Imagine if the question posed was "whose God is be...Imagine if the question posed was "whose God is better... Christians or Muslims." You would have been lucky to get out of there alive.

Back to your topic- I have heard many discussing that same question. I am a sports geek and I feel the same way as you (and many others) in that you cannot compare players of different eras. Just like you cannot compare football teams of different eras (ie 1970's Steelers, 1980's 49ers, 1990's Cowboys, 2000's Patriots.)Harry Nadshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16001537458540294314noreply@blogger.com
