How About Those Gasoline Prices: The Dream Came True

Regular readers of this blog may recall this post, from August 17, 2008, wherein I described the following dream I had the day before.

Early Saturday morning I had a dream. In that dream, I went out of my house one day and noticed something that completely astounded me. If I recall correctly, in the dream I was walking with my wife up the road to nearby Woodbury Plaza, and in the distance I saw the price sign on display at the BP gasoline station. What caught my attention was the price that was advertised for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline. It read $1.75 per gallon.

Further on in that post, I added:

I think I can be pretty confident that we won't see the price I saw in my aforementioned dream.

Well, as you can see from the photo at the top of this post, I am happy to report that after some four and a half months, the dream indeed did come true. Needless to say, I am absolutely astonished at this. At the time I had the dream, as I wrote in that post, I had no reason to believe it was even possible for the price to fall that low. I had resigned myself to never seeing regular unleaded gasoline fall below $3.00 per gallon.

As I wrote in this recent post, this is not first time I have had a dream or premonition come true concerning something really specific and in no way to be expected to come true. Being a skeptic about things psychic, I have to believe that it is just a coincidence. While it does indeed seem astounding, it is not impossible for such a thing to happen without it being a psychic experience. Still, I can't help but be amazed at it.

Oh, and before I forget, please accept my best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year.

That's just a glitch in the matrix, duh. *eyeroll*

Seriously, you got skillz, Tommy. Call me when you start dreaming about lottery numbers.

The recent drop in gas prices is proof that prayer works. Don't you remember all those Christians praying at gas stations?

Holy crap Batman, you are a seer!
And prayer DOES work? Wow, what a grand New Year this is going to be.
Now, what are the winning lottery numbers Tommy, and can someone pray for me to win? I don't have a direct connection to the big guy in the sky! :(

Right Vjack, I was thinking of that the other day. Those people praying at the gas stations are probably going to say that Gawd answered their prayers. Of course, in order for God's plan to work, millions of Americans have to have lost their jobs and reduced their driving to save money. The Lawd certainly works in mysterious ways!

Andrea and Tina, if I win the lottery jackpot from getting the numbers in a dream, a week's paid vacation in some nice tropical locale for all my regular readers is on me!

The tricky thing about that is that the dream would have to tell me which specific lottery and which specific day I would have to play the numbers in my dream. The thing with the dream about the gasoline prices, I dreamt of a specific price at a specific gas station, but had no idea when it would occur.

Tommy, is it too late to become one of your regular readers? ;)

If prayer really works, though, why are gas prices going back up? Maybe all those people who prayed for lower gas prices should have been praying for peace in the Middle East. Then they'd get peace AND lower gas prices.

Hey Christ! Welcome!

Well, since I haven't won the lottery yet, it's not too late.

Tommykey said...

Sorry about! In my mind, I was debating whether or not to refer to you as Chris or Christopher and accidentally called you Christ!

Christopher said...

That's okay--you're not the first, although the only other person to call me that was Chinese. He thought my name was "Christ" (pronounced with a short "i", not a long "i"), and he said, "Oh, that's a very famous Western name."

By the way, I've noticed gasoline prices creeping back up. In my neighborhood they actually dropped to $1.43, but have shot back up by at least twenty cents. I hope you dream about them falling again soon.

Tommykey said...

Christopher, maybe that was why I dreamed about that price at that gas station, because once it hit that price, the price started to rise again.

I got a chuckle out of Christ. :)

Tina, you already are one of my regular readers!

Premonition's fine, just as long as you don't "Find Jesus" mate ;)(Amazing how many people are careless enough to misplace him?).

Out of interest, how did you make it onto Rhology's wall of shame?

Hi Red Ferret!

Out of interest, how did you make it onto Rhology's wall of shame?

If I had to guess, I would have to chalk it up to me losing my cool with him in some of our earlier encounters.

I get a kick out of it actually. Any of his readers who visit here from his site can determine for themselves whether or not there is anything particularly shameful or sad about me. I think it says more about him than it does about me.

Good work.

(I'm not one of Rhology's readers though, get enough crazy reading his comments overat AXP and elsewhere).

I don't see anything too amazing about this. Well, aside from the amazing fact that gas has indeed dropped this low in the first place, that is. You could've dreamed it being $1.80, or $1.73, and I'm sure you would've found some gas station, at some point in time, with that same number. Unless you specifically remember the feeling of it being the new year of 2009, or there was a specific style car parked in front of the pumps that you remember, then actually saw... I don't see any big coincidence here.

As to the other cases in your other post... I'm sure they freaked you out, but funnily enough, that stuff happens to me so often that I've actually begun to count on it in my daily life. I'm a skeptic as much as you are, but I admit this is one thing that certainly tries to pull me into believing. I tend to comfort myself by thinking it's some sort of deeply-rooted subconscious thing. You pick up little hints here and there, and somewhere in the back of your mind a conclusion is formed. But you're not aware of the process at all. You didn't even realize that you noticed all the things you did. Then you say or think something, which you later find out to be true. I think this because I wasn't as good with logic when I was younger. Then I started watching detective shows and doing logic puzzles... I found this sort of stuff happening more and more often. Most commonly it'll be something in a conversation- One person tells a story. In the story, they're saying little hints that they don't even realize they're saying, like a comment about the construction on the highway a road over, or how there was so much traffic that sunday... Then you might say to them, "Ohh, Cherry Street has been horrible lately! Oakwood Lane is a lot faster!" You don't even realize you put together the clues of how 21st Street was fixing potholes that weekend and there's a church on Main that just got out, therefore they must have been on Cherry Street. They never said where they were.. and you never even thought about it. It just came together in your head. Funny how that works... I've had people freak out wondering how I knew some things, before.

That's a very concrete example, though. For things like the shoes... Oh gosh, I can't even tell how often that's happened. Though I also am most clueless as to events like this, where it's something so specific but you really had no way of knowing. Unless, maybe, you overheard someone talking about it earlier and you didn't notice (again)? The videotape seems purely coincidental to me, but I don't know the situation in its entirety. Who knows.

So anyway, even with things like this, I look for the most logical route. I've read and heard so much about the things our minds do subconsciously that it seems the best answer.

(Sorry for coming in here and going all, "I think", and "to me, it seems." I probably don't know any more about this stuff than you do. I just wanted to put in my two cents on the whole "psychic?" thing, since I don't see much questioning going on... And it's always better to look for a rational reason before jumping to conclusions, isn't it? =) )

Whoever managed to get my ID and password to post a response to commenter Lynele as if it were me is asked to please refrain from doing so again. Any future such comments will be deleted.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

Sheesh! Well, I just hope this won't get deleted as well, but ... why on earth did You write the whole post in girly-pink, Tommy? Is there something about You that we should know, Tommy? :-\

Even if it's not done for financial gain but simply for pure meanness (which is what this sounds like) stealing someone's identity is pretty despicable.

Tommykey said...

Thanks for the Shakespeare quote, Chris.

In fairness to whoever did it, the person seemed to have good intentions. It just disturbs me though that someone without my knowledge apparently has my login and password. If it were someone with malevolent intent, then that person could put up posts in my name on this blog, delete posts, alter my profile and so forth.

I have to take ownership for whatever is written under my name on this blog and in comments sections on other blogs, so while I appreciate the good intentions of whoever wrote the comments in response to Lynele in my name, ultimately it puts me in a situation where other people will respond to what was written in my name but not by me.

Thank you for your concern, Lucian. But I am secure enough in my heterosexuality that I can use such girly colors without feeling threatened.

Yeah, You're probably right: this would be basically like almost granting You something akin to some sort of a semi-divine status: all those supposedly inspired, apocryphal and pseudepigraphical comments written 'in the Name of TOM' by people who neither know You, nor have they ever 'seen Thy face', yet pretend to have some sort of a (quote/unquote) personal relationship with You. :-)

Yeah, ... right; I'm sure You are, Tommy, I'm sure You are... :-\

Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, Tommy, Tommy ...

Ooh, I'm sorry that someone managed to use your name, Tommy. I never did see what was written, though, or if you agreed with it or not. So I'm not sure what your response was..

Hi Lynele,

Someone had wrote to you telling you to use a Blogger ID and stay on topic or something along those lines.

Again, it wasn't really anything rude or obnoxious, apparently someone taking on his or herself to police my blog in my name without my knowledge or permission. I haven't noticed any further instances of it, fortunately, and I really don't need to know who it was, as long as that person knows not to do it again.

Well, here's a hunch anyway... (You can thank me later, and we might discuss the transfer-mode of those thirty pieces of sylver into my Pay-Pal account some time later, OK?). Shalom! >:)
