Pet Peeve of the Day - December 3, 2007

In an update on my post Xbox 360 vs. Playstation 3, I ended up buying the Xbox, along with its flagship game Halo 3. It is a very addicting game. Every time you think you are finished, a mini-movie plays and then you find yourself in another adventure. The next thing I know, it's 1 a.m.!

This weekend, I came up against a terrible new foe in Halo 3, the Scarab Tank. These bastards are very tough and hard to kill. I HATE Scarab Tanks!

Here is a clip someone put up on Youtube showing a battle with a Scarab Tank.

I'll probably wind up getting that game. I played the original Halo, and noticed that they pretty much did everything right:

1) Vehicles are easy to use

2) There are only a few weapons, and each is suited to a specific sort of enemy. There's nothing worse than having to deal with an endless supply of useless weapons, like in Half Life.

3) The action is very smooth.

4) They had a story line that required the player to travel into HALO fighting one type of enemy, and out of HALO fighting another type. The net effect was that it was like 2 games in one, without having to devote too much space to constructing new locations.

I also noticed that in Halo 3, there seems to be an option to use the 3rd person perspective, which helps draw the player into the action and gives a broader field of vision. Maybe I'll get this one when I get back from vacation.

That looks awesome. But I have an eight year old son - so we are going with the Wii for Christmas. We will graduate to the non-Nintendo systems when he is older, or many more kid-friendly games come out for the XBox360.

We have a GameCube and Playstation 2, but even with its huge library of games, the PS2 doesn't compare with the GameCube for a focus on kids.

Alrighty then! I'm off to play Halo on my Playstation. Good choice, and yes! it is addictive.

Hey Harry! You've been quiet lately.

Tina, hate to break it to you, but Halo 3 is only on Xbox 360, though IIRC, you have the Xbox as well.
