Oh The Irony

By way of John Amato at Crooks and Liars comes this clip from the movie The Bells of St. Mary's, in which the students of the school recite the Pledge of Allegiance. As the movie was filmed in 1945, you might notice something missing from the Pledge.

The irony in it for me is that The Bells of St. Mary's is the kind of movie that cultural conservatives complain isn't made by Hollywood anymore because it depicts religious figures and religious faith in a positive light.

It wouldn't surprise me if a future dvd edition of the movie was edited to slip the "under God" part into this scene.

That's the first time I have heard kids saying it as a classroom...well I know it's a movie.
